Keawanui Fishpond Updates 1/26/22

Updated: Feb 12, 2023

In honor of Makahiki Season, we hosted Lono yesterday at Keawanui Fishpond as a part of Ka’ahele a Lono.

The call of the pū announcing the arrival of Lono and the kaʻahele could be heard throughout the ahupuaʻa of Molokaʻi this week from Hālawa to Kaluakoʻi (Hale o Lono).

In addition to hosting Lono on Tuesday night, our kiaʻi at Keawanui Fishpond also had the honor and privilege to hāpai Lono on different legs of his journey through Molokaʻi. Kahekili Pa-Kala carried Lono from Kaʻamola to Puaʻahala. Leelan Corpuz carried Lono throughout the Hoʻolehua homestead, Uncle Walter carried Lono in Palaʻau along Mahana Stretch and Kamaki Manangan carried Lono in Kaluakoʻi from Maunaloa School to Hale o Lono.

The mana and aloha of our island could be felt all week as ʻohana and schools stopped to offer mele and hoʻokupu and we said our pule for the year.

Mahalo nui to @kamolokaimakahiki for organizing the kaʻahele!

Lonoikamakahiki!
